FAQ

  • What is a cloud-enabled IP camera?

A Cloud-enabled IP camera is a camera that establishes a direct connection to the cloud without the need for port forwarding. In this setup, both video and metadata are securely and encryptedly transmitted through a dedicated tunnel, making this connection method the most secure option available.

  • Why use VMS cloud platform for an IP camera?

In a nutshell, the advantages of cloud technology, compared to on-premise solutions, revolve around flexibility, customization, and reliability. These benefits make a compelling case for migrating to the cloud, including:

Global Accessibility: Access cameras from anywhere worldwide.

Advanced Analytics: Enhance even basic cameras with advanced analytical capabilities, significantly boosting service value.

Multi-User Simultaneity: Enable an unlimited number of users to access camera streams concurrently.

Tailored Configuration: Customize archive duration, resolution, frame rate, and image quality to your preferences.

Unified Viewing: View multiple cameras from different manufacturers in a single session.

Offline Archive Review: Review archives even when the camera is inaccessible or powered down.

Automated Actions: Trigger intelligent automation routines based on predefined events.

Stream Security and Storage Reliability: Ensure the safety of video streams and the dependability of storage solutions.

These factors collectively underscore the advantages of cloud-based solutions for video surveillance and management.

  • How does an IP camera connect to a cloud platform for storage and AI analytics processing?

A script running on the camera initiates the creation of a secure and encrypted tunnel between the camera and the cloud. This tunnel serves as a direct communication channel through which both video and metadata streams are transmitted to the cloud. Once the cloud receives the camera's footage, its AI capabilities can begin applying the necessary analytics for a specific scenario. If necessary, multiple analytical modules can be activated simultaneously, maximizing the analytical capabilities and responsiveness of the system.

  • How does a cloud IP camera work?

A Cloud IP camera functions much like a standard digital camera, transforming video streams into digital data suitable for transmission via protocols such as RTSP or RTMP. The key distinction between a regular digital camera and an IP camera is the presence of a network module in the IP camera, enabling it to possess a unique IP address. Additionally, a Cloud IP camera is equipped with a cloud plug-in that facilitates a direct connection to the cloud without the requirement for port forwarding or the inclusion of specialized bridges, connectors, or routers between the camera and the cloud.
